About the program

It is a program created to modernize the agricultural sector by intervening in four areas: training young people to be agro-entrepreneurs; facilitating physical capital in order to promote mechanized production; disaster risk reduction; and facilitating research and technology.

Objectives

Modernize the agricultural sector and mitigate the impact of losses caused as a result of the preferential arrangements for bananas in the European Union.

Components and/or products

Training for young people

Training is carried out for young people in order to create new agro-entrepreneurs.

Facilitation of physical capital

Agricultural equipment is acquired in order to promote mechanized production. It is intended that the new agro-entrepreneurs apply the latest technologies to boost production. Agribusinesses are promoted through better marketing and agro-processing capacity.

Disaster Risk Reduction

It seeks to update the management system of pests and diseases. Furthermore, the Program intends to modify the legal framework to facilitate better control of pests. It also aims to reduce vulnerability by constructing and rehabilitating agricultural roads and riverbanks.

Facilitating research and technology

It seeks to strengthen quality standards for Santa Lucia and meet with the quality requirements.
