National Program for Sustainable Rural and Urban Development

About the program

This is a sustainability program implemented since 2000 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. It seeks to contribute in improving the quality of life of urban and rural communities through human social, environmental and productive development based on self-management and community participation, with a focus on the sustainable management of natural resources with emphasis on those aspects which tend to lessen environmental vulnerability and weakness of the processes of social participation, especially in rural and urban communities.

Objectives

Contribute to improving the quality of life of urban and rural communities through human social development, environmental and productive development, based on self-management and community participation, with a focus on the sustainable management of natural resources with emphasis on those aspects that tend to reduce environmental vulnerability and weakness of the processes of social participation, especially in rural and urban communities.

Purpose

  • Strengthen institutional capacity for the design, harmonize strategies and policies for sustainable rural and urban development, with monitoring and impact assessment processes that allow a decentralized and participatory management of rural and urban communities.
  • Promote and implement the integrated management of resources such as soil, water, forest, biodiversity, climate change policies, electrification. Promote food security in coordination with other state agencies related thereto and all those components or projects that add to the development of rural and urban communities of influence, according to a participatory plan formulated for the purpose.
  • Enable new forms of access to financial and non-financial resources, in coordination with other state agencies related to them and allow increased rural production, employment and income to families and rural and urban communities.
  • Strengthen the existing program of rural banks or implement its expansion to urban areas within the framework envisaged in the Country’s Vision and the Nation’s Plan.
  • Contribute to improving the quality of life of urban and rural communities through human, social, environmental and productive development, based on self-management and community participation with a focus on sustainable management of natural resources, emphasizing those aspects that tend to reduce environmental vulnerability and weakness of the processes of social participation.

  • Financing and credits.
  • Supply Chain Development: Financing post-production infrastructure.
  • Employment-generating activities.
  • Infrastructure: Installation of irrigation and drainage systems.
  • Training and technical assistance: Implementation of agricultural schools.
