Presidential Program "Our Major Rights"

About the program

This program is an essential part of the Universal Social Protection System (SPSU), it was implemented in 2011. It is a presidential program whose main objective is to improve the living conditions and the exercise of rights of older persons.

Objectives

Improve living conditions and the exercise of rights of older persons.

Components and/or products
  • Health promotion and nutrition.
  • Literacy.
  • Awareness for social recognition and appreciation of the elderly.
  • Universal Basic Pension: Monthly support of USD$50 which benefits adults aged 70 years or older, who reside in one of the 53 municipalities of extreme and severe and high poverty, who do not receive pension and who have low incomes or  are living in situations of neglect.
  • Recreating traditions and culture.
  • Improving and making spaces for older persons.
  • Promoting economic autonomy.
Target population

Adults 60 years of age or older who reside in the 100 municipalities in severe and high extreme poverty in Rural Communities in Solidarity and the 412 urban neighborhoods of the 25 priority municipalities in Urban Communities in Solidarity. However, in the case of the Universal Basic Pension, only women and men 70 and over who meet the criteria will receive it.
