National Economic and Social Development Plan 2013-2025

General information

The Plan covers the period 2013-2025 and outlines the long-term national development strategy for the country. It offers a vision to improve the quality of life and focuses on achieving the following objectives:

  1. High and sustainable levels of economic growth;
  2. Reduced levels of unemployment and poverty;
  3. Improving physical infrastructure and environmental sustainability;
  4. High levels of human and social development;
  5. A safe and peaceful nation;
  6. A technologically advanced workforce;
  7. A deep sense of national pride and cultural revival;
  8. Regional integration; and
  9. Improved global solidarity.

  1. Maintain strong macroeconomic fundamentals.
  2. Revitalize the agriculture and fisheries sector.

  5. Promote the role of the private sector and the manufacturing sector in economic and social development in conjunction with the state and cooperative sector.

  9. Maximize the benefits through integration into Economic Unions Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), The CARICOM Single Market and Economy and the global economy.

  11. Optimizing the economic contribution of marine resources.

Allow growth in human and social development 

  1. Reduce poverty.
  2. Create jobs and reduce unemployment.
  3. Develop and adopt a functional and literate population.
  4. Promote self-care interventions and practices for a healthy lifestyle.
  5. Facilitate social, cultural and economic development at the community level.
  6. Empowering young people to participate meaningfully in national growth and contribute to it.
  7. Improve living conditions and housing for the entire population.
  8. Facilitate the protection and inclusion of vulnerable and marginalized groups.

Promote good governance and increase the effectiveness of public administration

  1. Promoting participatory democracy, accountability, transparency, effectiveness and efficiency in the provision of public goods and services.
  2. Develop and maintain a peaceful, tranquil and safe environment.
  3. Improve the quality of the judicial and legal system and build confidence in it.
  4. Enhance the role of civil society in maintaining democracy.
  5. Broaden and deepen diplomatic relations.

Improving physical infrastructure, preserve the environment and build resilience to climate change

  1. Optimize the use of limited land space.
  2. Increase the country's road network.
  3. Improve air access for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, including the construction of an international airport.

  4. Maximize the contribution of cultural industries to economic growth.
