Plan National de Sécurité Alimentaire et Nutritionnelle

General information

Following the food crisis and natural disasters that have hit Haiti, the Government seeks to provide the country with strategic and operational instruments in order to meet the challenges of fighting poverty and food insecurity. The overall objective is to eliminate, by 2025, food insecurity in the Haitian population by concretizing the right to food, through a convergent orientation of all stakeholders and international, national and local actors involved in the production, distribution and use of food.

Objectives

General objective

Eliminate food insecurity by 2025 in the Haitian population by concretizing the right to food through a convergent orientation of all stakeholders and international, national and local actors involved in the production, distribution and use of food.

Specific objectives

  1. Promote agriculture and productive, diversified and friendly fishing environment in order to ensure the availability of quality food products constantly to meet 80% of the needs of the Haitian population.
  2. Increasing school supply and nutritional education for the population in order to improve food security.
  3. Increase income and purchasing power of households through productive investment and the creation of sustainable jobs in order to improve the access of the most vulnerable to essential food products as well as basic social services.
  4. Strengthening mechanisms for prevention and management of food crises in benefit of the population in order to promote a system of protection and safety for the most vulnerable households, through the revitalization of the National Observatory of Food Security, and the establishment of a partnership between the private sector, public sector and civil society.
  5. Strengthen mechanisms of cooperation and exchange between the actors involved in the fight for food security in Haiti for the sake of a better way to channel their experience, resources, knowledge for the implementation of National Policy on FNS.

The Haitian population in general, especially the most vulnerable households.
