Objectives

The objective of the National Plan for Risk Management and Adaptation to Climate Change in the Agricultural Sector is to provide strategies, outline of policies, proposals and actions agreed with regional governments in order to reduce risk, vulnerability and to mitigate the effects of Climate Change on the Agricultural Sector.

Strategic axes and strategic objectives:

  • Strategic axis 1. Investigate and report for Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation.
    • Specific Objective 1.1: Manage correctly the different native varieties and breeds with an agro ecological approach in order to reduce the impact of frost, drought, floods and “friaje”.
    • Specific Objective 1.2: "agrohidrometeorológica" (agro-hydrometerological) information generated and properly disseminated to monitor recurring hydro meteorological phenomena of the agricultural sector.
  • Strategic axis 2. Prepare and respond to emergencies created by weather events.
    • Specific Objective 2.1: The rural population should be prepared to address and reduce the negative impact to emergencies or disasters caused by climate hazards.
    • Specific Objective 2.2: Stabilize the income of the most vulnerable producers to losses by extreme weather due to natural phenomena.
    • Specific Objective 2.3: Vulnerable agricultural producers should be prepared for agricultural emergencies.
    • Specific Objective 2.4: Avoid direct and indirect effects of pests and diseases affecting agricultural production waste.
  • Strategic axis 3. Prevention and risk reduction from weather events.
    • Specific Objective 3.1: Water infrastructure properly constructed for the prevention and reduction of flood risk and drought in vulnerable agricultural areas.
    • Specific Objective 3.2: Identification, proper use and conservation of native varieties and agro - ecological breeding techniques in order to reduce the impact of weather events.
    • Specific Objective 3.3: Pasture management, improved soil and water for reducing risks in agriculture.
    • Specific Objective 3.4: Practices afforestation / deforestation, agroforestry and forest management appropriate to reduce the impact of extreme weather events.
  • Strategic axis 4. Planning for the development of Risk Management and Adaptation to Climate Change.
    • Specific Objective 4.1: adequate and sustainable management of natural resources in micro basins in order to contribute to reduce the negative effects on the agricultural sector by climatic events.
  • Strategic axis 5. Improving local capacities for Risk Management and Adaptation to Climate Change.
    • Specific Objective 5.1: Improved local capacities in Risk Management and Adaptation to Climate Change in agriculture.
