Enacted in 1985, its goal is to increase the irrigated area of the country in order to improve water supply areas considered deficiently irrigated.
This law empowers the State of Chile to finance annually a Program for Minor Construction Works for Irrigation and Drainage, which through a system of public competitions subsidizes a percentage of the cost of its construction, and through a mandate the National Irrigation Commission must apply, manage and disseminate the benefits of this Act.
