Law 20,606 on Nutritional Composition of Food and its Advertising was developed in 2012, mainly taking into account the context of the report prepared by the World Health Organization in 2002. In Chile, obesity is the most relevant chronic disease for all age groups. This disease entails other deadly diseases and, it is in this context, that Law 20,606 aims to regulate two aspects: first of all that food products have their corresponding and honest labeling regarding several factors that can affect food quality, such as levels of fats, sugars and salt and, in addition, the regulation, and in specific cases, the ban on advertising certain food products, mainly aimed at children under 14 years of age.
