The right to food in Chile
The Political Constitution of 1980 gives an implicit recognition of the right to food. It is established in Article 5 that "the exercise of sovereignty recognizes as a limitation the respect for the essential rights emanating from human nature" and that "it is the duty of the Government to respect and promote such rights guaranteed by this Constitution and by international treaties ratified by Chile that are in force ".
Similarly, Article 19 of the Constitution recognizes in clauses 1 and 9 "the right to life and to physical and mental integrity of the person" and "the right to health protection."
